Dolly’s a Rock Star

Dolly Parton released here latest album today, “Rock Star.” One of the songs seems to condemn all politicians as liars and cheats.

She has been known to keep her political views private. In a 2018 interview with ABC’s David Wright, she said, “I learned a long time ago, keep your damn mouth shut if you want to stay in show business. … I’m not in politics, I’m an entertainer” 1. She has also refused to align with or condemn any particular ideology or US president, while insisting that it’s the key to her longevity 2.

However, some of her philanthropic activities have been interpreted as political statements. For instance, she donated $1 million to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, which helped fund the development of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine 23. She has also been a vocal supporter of the LGBTQ+ community and has been involved in various charitable causes, including literacy and children’s welfare 23.

It’s worth noting that Dolly Parton’s politics are not straightforward and have been described as a mix of left-wing and right-wing signifiers 2. She has also been known to deflect questions about her political leanings with humor 2.
