Commander Custer

The Washington Football Team changed its name this week, finalizing a year-long transition from ‘Redskins’ to ‘Commanders.’ Along with the shiny new name, the team announced a brand-new mascot: General George Custer.

Mountain Madness

I’m trying to ride all 8 stages of Tour de Zwift 2022. Stage 2 was the one I was dreading, but I managed to make it up Box Hill KOM and finish all of the London Loop in under 1 hour!

Year in Sport 2021

I could be a little disappointed about missing my mileage goal for the year. I could be disappointed that my fitness didn’t improve. I’m not focusing on that. I had COVID in July and was unable to train for three weeks. I came back stronger, and October was my best month. December was another lousy month; I didn’t ride for three weeks after my father died.

I’m starting strong in 2022 and looking forward to significant improvements in my fitness this year.

Toughest Athletes in the World

Once again, a rider in the professional peloton proves that cyclists are the toughest athletes in the world. G. Thomas fell and dislocated his shoulder. The team doctors popped it back in place, and then he got back on his bike and continued to ride! His teammates paced him back into the peloton.

Respect the Athletes

This dumbass has no idea how serious these pro-cyclists could have been injured. The rider on the left sees the sign, but there’s nowhere to go in a professional peloton.

New Panthers Owner

I had no idea the Panthers franchise is worth over 2 Billion 💵 Why did they need public financing for stadium renovations?

Olympic Inspiration

Since there wasn’t much else on TV for about two weeks (and it was too cold to go outdoors and bicycle) I watched a lot of Olympic sports. Most of the time I was in awe of those who could jump and flip on skates, skis or snowboards. My thought was always, “If I tried that, I’d wind up dead.”

Until I saw Curling. Then I thought, “I’d like to try that. Looks kinda like a cross between bowling and shuffleboard.” So I Googled “curling clubs near me” and found the Palmetto Curling Club. Tonight I went to their open house and tried curling for the first time.

It’s not as easy as it looks on TV, let me tell you. First time I tried to deliver a stone, I almost wound up flat on my face. It took me at least six tries before I could deliver a stone that even went past the hog line. And that sweeping you see them doing, it’s a real workout.

Over all, I had a great time, but it’s expensive to participate in a league (more cash than bowling) so I think I’m just gonna stick to riding my bike for exercise. That’s expensive enough.
